Tabbouleh-or-Tabouli

What does one think of when they hear the word “healthy”? Perhaps, the image of lush and leafy greens? Have you ever been in a tiff where you had to choose between something healthy and something tasty? Well, you can just have both. 


For sure the greens that you picked up from your grocery store are healthy but when you think of the word ‘salad’ you can't help but think of maybe getting some croutons to go with it, or perhaps some shaved carrots. Oh well, what about a simple vinaigrette or creamy dressing? If we think about it there is no limit to making your healthy salad, tasty as well. In fact, as we move from city to city, country to country, continent to continent we are introduced to numerous native recipes that simply blows our minds. Well, just like that we are here to introduce you to our Tabbouleh or Tabouli, which is a Mediterranean salad of Lebanese origin. It chiefly, consists of cracked wheat, tomatoes, parsley, mint, onions, lemon juice, and olive oil. Sounds delicious and healthy, doesn't it?

What is Tabbouleh or Tabouli?

This Mediterranean cuisine is what we can refer to as a celebration of parsley on a plate, as it dominates the recipe. The delicious Tabbouleh salad mainly comprises parsley and bulgur. Bulgur wheat is made of cracked wheat berries. They normally come par boiled; hence they cook very quickly and are also a great source of protein. In addition, and they are also whole wheat packed with nutrients.

How to make Tabbouleh or Tabouli?

The salad is prepared by adding finely chopped parsley, chopped mint, tomatoes, and onions to a bowl.It is then topped with lemon juice, olive oil, and spices for flavor. The cooked and cooled bulgur is then added to the bowl and the salad is tossed gently. To finish off, some salt and lemon juice can be added and the salad is ready to be served.
